Our sub-conscious acts like a playback recorder.  It absorbs inputted information from our parents, our friends, our environment, the television and media etc and then simply plays it back.  This is why our sub-conscious will always draw us back to what is familiar ie old patterns of behaviour and why new habits can be challenging to form.
